Individual #8

personal_zps6359b4dd
Adrien has an amazing personality and a humble character that will warm you up the minute you meet him. He is ever so creative and passionate about what he does best – interior design and décor. What sets him above the rest is his fresh, contemporary, minimalistic ideas.

On interior designing
What sparked Adrien’s interest in interior designing was his urge to revamp and refurbish his house and his interest in drawing. Ikea came onto the shores of Malaysia and there was no turning back. He feels that interior designing is the in between of fashion design and architecture. To him, that makes interior designing so exciting.

On designing for people
When asked about designing for clients, Adrien says that there is a system to it where the client and the designer must have a similar language. For him, if the client and him understands the similar languange, the relationship and design will instantaneously be organic. He also finds that references through photographs really helpful.

Inspiration
Where does Adrien get his inspiration from? As a very visual person, Adrien draws his inspiration from almost anything that is visual from the internet, television, music videos and movies. He says that for furniture, his all time favourite designer is Finn Juhl.

Nicholas Ng has an eye for style and a gut for fashion. It is no wonder that he advocates streetstyle through his blog, Garbagelapsap.com. His career as the Senior Sales and Brand Manager for EsquireMalaysia requires him to jet set between Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Hong Kong. In between all that, he gets to mix and mingle with the who’s who of the fashion, media and PR industry. Moreover, he is able to preview latest fashion items (and gets media discounts while at it!). Needless to say, he has a dream job for anyone who is into fashion and men’s style.

Nicholas feels that Malaysian guys are getting more stylish and fashionable. He said that there is progress as compared to a couple of years back (The Unfolded agrees). However, it is comparatively slow as compared to some other Asian countries like Hong Kong (which has already reached a matured level) and Singapore.

When asked, where could the modern day Malaysian guys get their suits tailored? He recommends Wardrobe, located along Jalan Maarof in Bangsar. And if a guy happens to be in Singapore, he should definitely check out Dylon and Son.

While Garbagelapsap focuses on street style snaps, it also features the latest fashion news for both lovers of style and curious fashion enthusiast alike. Nicholas said that Garbagelapsap started as a personal blog where he would pen his thoughts, back in the day. A few years later, Garbagelapsap trashed its way to become one of the most phenomenal and talked about street style blogs in Malaysia. In fact, Nicholas has every reason to be proud of his baby as garbagelapsap has bagged features not in only local newpapers and magazines, but international publications such as The New Yorker, Vogue and fashion blogs from overseas.

#nowplaying: Karen O & The Kids- All Is Love

Spring is here and it’s time for some happy/fun rhythm. This song is taken from the soundtrack of Where The Wilds Things Are- a movie adapted from the novel written by Maurice Sendak in 1963. The song started off with melodramatic piano, and then the rainbow pop melody comes alive with the touch of Karen O’s beautiful striking voice. Something different from her usual music genre, she brings cuteness to this whimsical song with the help from the voices of children’s choir- rare and fresh, almost magical. You can hear clapping and bells ringing, a sing along song full with energy that will definitely bring a smile on everyone’s face. Nominated for Grammy Award in 2010, Miss O co-wrote this lovely song with Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ bandmate, Nick Zinner. Enjoy!

#nowplaying: Band of Horses- Factory

Band of Horses has dropped another ‘F-bomb’- having Factory as their first single taken from their much anticipated third album, Infinite Arms which was released in 2010. Factory is not as feel-good catchy as their other songs. It is a melancholic song that serenades the soul. The heartfelt in Ben Bridwell’s voice can somehow makes us cry- you can almost feel the amount of sincerity in each note. We know that this is not the latest single but hey a good song will always remain timeless! Agree?!

Let's get to know: LITTTER SF

PhotobucketPhotobucket

We from The Unfolded are constantly driven to find new interesting individuals who are bold enough to believe in their dreams and actually living in it.  Rae and Mackenzie are examples of people who we would like to be stucked with at the same dinner table. These 2 amazing sisters blew our mind by the fact that they’re making jewelleries out of tools given from their grandma- the woman who is responsible for flourishing them with the knowledge on how to create beautiful pieces of jewellery that everyone is excited to put on.  These sisters are the co-founders of Litter SF which became and international hit in only few months. The pieces of jewellery that they create are not the normal kind. The pieces are made to accessorize different unusual parts of the body that many of us never thought of, such as the legs, shoulder, elbows- unconventional ways of wearing jewelleries but they made it work. Apart from that, they produce pieces to accessorize the shoes, ties, collars and to-die-for head gears. Their jewelleries are not only made for women, they also make pieces for men. Overall, their line offers accessories for those who love to look edgy, different and a bit rustic- nothing like Tiffany’s but will still be envied by many.

What fascinates us is that their jewelleries are made from chains and other metal parts that are found in thrift shops and flea markets. You know someone is a genius if they can change something that people “throw away” to gold-making hits and most talked about pieces by fashion magazines.  Judging by the line, it’s obvious that these 2 sisters are though cookies and won't take no for an answer and are constantly working day and night to put together Litter SF. We all know that to build an empire online and to go global in a very short period is not easy it takes a bucket full of courage! You can buy their stuff online and also be inspired by their own personal blog- which literally feels like running through their personal mood board. COVET!

#nowplaying: FEIST- How Come You Never Go There

Taken from her 3rd much anticipated album Metals, How Come You Never Go There is the first single by Canadian singer, Leslie Feist or better known as Feist. The song is not a sing-along fun catchy hit like one of her famous song, 1234. Her new album Metal is a compilation of dark, tense soul-blues songs- she serenades us with an aching love story. Hauntingly during the chorus she sings, “how come you never go there? How come I'm so alone there?” Feist’s piercing voice sounded perfect. You can definitely feel her inner sadness. The sounds of horns and electric guitar added raw element to it. A great song taken from a great album by a great singer! And Feist is one the acts for this year’s Laneway Festival in Singapore. Stoked!
